Reporting & safety

How to report a message or a person on DateSmarter, what happens next, and how to reach us quickly if something feels urgent.

A human summary

How to report or block someone, what happens after you do, and how to reach us quickly if something feels wrong. Your safety comes first, and we act on every report.

If you feel unsafe right now

If you or someone else is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first. In New Zealand, call 111.

For an urgent safety concern about something on DateSmarter, email info@datesmarter-ai.com with "Urgent safety" in the subject and we will prioritise it.

How to report a message or a person

Inside a chat, tap the menu at the top, or press and hold any message. Choose Report, then pick the reason that fits:

  • Fake, spam or a scammer
  • Inappropriate content
  • Someone who appears to be under 18
  • Pushing to move the chat off DateSmarter
  • Harassment or hate speech
  • Someone is in danger

You can add a short note if you want, then send it. You can also report a profile while browsing, using the menu on their card.

What happens straight away

The moment you report someone, they are blocked. You will not see each other again, in chat, likes or discovery, and the conversation leaves your chat list. You do not have to keep talking to anyone to report them.

What happens next

Your report comes through to our team to review. We aim to look at every report within 24 hours. If action is needed, we take it, and we let you know once we have reviewed it. Decisions to remove someone from DateSmarter are made by a person, not automatically.

Report, block, remove and unmatch

  • Report blocks the person and sends it to us to review.
  • Block stops contact both ways, you disappear from each other.
  • Remove quietly hides a profile while you browse. It is not a report.
  • Unmatch ends a match and clears that conversation.
